Study techniques and strategies to help you pass the National SAFE Test with confidence.

Many students call it the “NMLS test”, but it’s important to understand how the system works: NMLS provides every mortgage professional with a unique identifier, while your actual license is issued by the state. You must be licensed in each state where you originate loans, and passing the SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) exam is the first step. At Mortgage Education Institute, our focused Test Prep gives you the tools, support, and personal guidance you need to succeed — including one-on-one, live webinar, and on-demand options tailored to your needs.

Test Taking Tip: When preparing for your exam, one of the biggest “aha moments” for students is understanding the big picture of federal versus state authority. The often-called “NMLS Test” is actually a misnomer. It is not an "NMLS Test" because NMLS does not license; it only issues a unique identifier. There is no federal mortgage license. The SAFE Act requires individuals and companies to be licensed by each state where they plan to do business. This is why it's call the "SAFE Test". This distinction clears up much of the confusion for students when preparing to take the SAFE exam. Understanding how the SAFE Act and other federal laws fit into this framework is only part of the “Big Picture” our instructor teaches in our Test Prep Course. Connecting laws, concepts, actions, duties, and responsibilities into that Big Picture is a key component of our test prep — and it’s what enables students to pass the SAFE Test with confidence and succeed in their mortgage careers.
